  1. Let's all create a positive, meaningful learning environment that uses short, stimulating lessons infused with novelty, instructional variety, and repetition.

  2. My take-away over the past two days will be the Live Scribe. I am excited to incorporate my passion for teaching study skills through note-taking in an online forum that will assist each student become the forefront of the class at different times while creating a forum for the students to belong to a group.

I also resonated with the idea of 10 minute segments and questions that direct the curriculum based on the information I am receiving from their understanding.

  3. I'm really excited about the number talks and plan to use them every day for the first couple of weeks, and then every Monday for the remainder of the year. I've also heard a lot about blogging and never felt ready to jump in. Now I do.

  4. I would tell my colleagues that creating a space that is emapthetic with choice and meaning is important to the development of student learning.

I am excited about incorporating 8-10 minutes of Math Talks with my students. I am also excited about trying out blogger in my classroom to help understand what they know.

Thank you for collaborating with me and helping me to go from "good" to "better".

  5. I am excited to start the school year with all of these new ideas! I am excited to work on my ONE THING and will use the techniques I talked with Darren about on how to pose better problems. I think it can be easier than I thought by just removing part of the information.

I also plan to use Number Talks and feel that I finally have a vision of how that will work in my classroom.

I am hoping to use the Blog and I am excited to see how the students will take it on! I envision it as a great way for students to communicate their learning.

  6. For the past two days my collegues and I challenged ourselves to go from good to better.

Darren K, (because I don't know how to spell or promounce his last name) travelled to our little town of Lake Placid from Manitoba, Canada to aid the math department in making learning meaningful.

The first day started with lots of introspection and reflecting. Some tough decisions were made there. It's not easy narrowing down your core values into 3 words.

We had great conversation about biting your tongue (pause time), finding time, creating an empathetic and safe space for learning, Math Talks and the idea of blogging. (Many other questions were asked and answered but I can't remember them all.)

We began our second day with a new teacher orientation where we stuffed our faces with quiche and coffee! After some time milling around the food we headed to Tammy's room to hear the cliffhanger Darren left us with on the first day. I think I saw some more gray hair form on John's head after the story.

It was a great two days with lots of ideas to play with however I have to say I am very disappointed we did not get our allotted 10 minute kinesthetic movement regularly.
